An extremely hard to find official PGA Tour leaderboard / scoreboard from the 1997 Buick Classic held at Westchester Country Club.  Ernie Els held off to win this tournament with Tiger Woods not too far off in 8th place.  Only one other leaderboard has been available for purchase through an auction, it sold for about $70,000 in 2022.

Ernie Els might not be the No. 1 golfer in the world in terms of income or adulation or recognition. No, Tiger Woods still leads in those categories. Els simply rules where it counts: on the golf course.

That is where Els is operating on a higher level, with a sweet swing and a knack for performing under pressure. The golf course is his equalizer; though he does not match the charisma and popularity of Woods and some other golfers, Els can put his game up against that of anyone in the world. Right now, he would win.

He has won for two weeks running, capturing the United States Open last weekend and following up with a two-shot victory today in the Buick Classic. He led wire to wire here for the second straight year, and though Jeff Maggert tried to make it interesting, he could not put together enough of a run to catch Els, and Els refused to come back to him.

Els shot a two-under-par 69 to complete 72 holes in 268, 16 under par over Westchester Country Club's West course. That tied the 72-hole record for the tournament with the course set up as a par 71, held by David Frost (1992) and Lee Janzen (1994).
